Happy 7th birthday Sweet & Silly Penelope! 🥳💝🎂I’m so thankful for my sweet P; she's a beast (just look at slide 5) and not the brightest bulb, but nonetheless, she has my absolute heart. (P.S. Matilda does too.) I truly believe dogs make our homes & hearts better places. She brings so much joy, love, and laughter to my boys and me with every wag of her tail, which wiggles her entire body, her endless requests for snuggles and pets, and her absolute need to be the main character in every moment, especially since she hit 1.7 million views on a recent post. 🐾 Help me wish this sweet and goofy girl a very happy happy birthday! We love her so much! 🎁 How do you celebrate your pet’s birthday?
Q: Can STELFONTA® be injected into the scar of a surgically removed MCT to prevent regrowth? 👀 A: Afraid NOT - It cannot be used in this way. Keep watching to learn why. 💉Thanks to Garde-Malade for my beautiful scrubs and if you need to add some fun colors to your collection you can use my code DRSUECANCERVET10 for 10% off.
I say this all the time because it’s TRUE: pets actually tolerate chemotherapy quite well compared to how humans now respond to chemo. 🐾For example, an unfortunate chemotherapy side effect for people is losing their hair, whereas most dogs do not (but there are a few breeds, such as poodles, whose haircoat can significantly thin out). If you find this hard to believe, please know that I’m speaking from experience and am not minimizing this. Many of my patients go home and play and eat normally after treatment, but there are cases in which some side effects occur, and when they do, we know what to do to keep them comfortable and put them at bay. One possible side effect among those is diarrhea. 💩When my patients do have this side effect, my go-to prescription for about two years now is Canalevia™️-CA1. It’s an FDA-conditionally approved drug available to prescribe for dogs dealing with chemo-induced diarrhea. 💊It’s not an antibiotic, which I love because by not using one, we’re not contributing to the overall problem of antibiotic resistance, and it works pretty quickly. Did you know these stats? If your dog has ever been on chemo, did they have any side effects?
This information can be helpful when choosing a furry friend to bring into your home. 🐾In the final white paper of the canine cancer series, data on both mixed-breed and purebred dogs was analyzed to show the relative risk in regard to the size of a dog, and the age. For both mixed-breed and purebred dogs, the relative risk for a cancer claim steadily increases with the size of the dog, although in at all sizes, purebreds had a higher relative risk.Of course, all dogs deserve to be loved, but part of being a responsible pet parent is knowing what genetic predispositions they come with so you can be proactive in preventing diseases, especially cancer. What kind of dog do you have?
